Approach
A mix is a long series of small decisions: where the vocal sits, how much low end the kick keeps, whether the second chorus opens up or holds back. Get enough of those right and the record sounds like it was always supposed to.
The other half of the job is translation. The version you hear in your head has to survive earbuds, a car, and a club system. I check all three before anything ships.
